Activity 3 - Unit 9 - Social Customs

When you deal with people from other cultures, it is helpful if you have learned something about the customs and attitudes of those cultures. For example, attitudes about men’s and women’s roles vary greatly from one culture to another.
Imagine some foreign visitors are coming to our city for vacation. The have asked for some advice to help them avoid embarrassing situations.

Think about the answer to three of these questions, and write some advice to prepare your visitors for a range of social situations. Please elaborate a little and explain why. (Check the Do’s & Don’ts lists for useful phrases to use.)

  2. Caolis, question 1 is not answered completely. Question 2 is OK and question 3 does not explain why being punctual is important or not in VENEZUELA.

Remember you need to elaborate on your answers and tell why.

  3. Do you have to leave a tip in cafes and restaurants even if the service is poor?

In Venezuela, the tip is an expression of courtesy given for what we consider has been good service, but we shouldn’t think that is an obligation. if you don’t feel you have been attended very well, you don’t have to leave any tip.

Which subjects are taboo in general conversation?

Politics, religion and sex are three subjects very sensitive because people have diferent opinion about that. Usually in my country people  avoid these subjects because are considered taboo to start a conversation with strangers.

Is it very important to be punctual?

It's important but it's very common that people do not arrive on time. I think  it is part of our culture.

Activity 1 - Unit 7 – Do you follow trends?

I identify with the box 3

When I was 14 , I remember was obligation for me to used everything was in the
fashion of the time, various hairstyles, striped trousers, nike shoes and with my
friends practiced new dance steps. I can say that was fun. Now a day I wear
whatever I want, as what everyone should do. But I use trends as a way to add
to my own style. I love fashion and fashion always repeats itself so old trends
turn into new trends. I use all these trends as inspirations when I go shopping.
But whatever I like, i'll wear it. Not just because its trendy. Some trends I don't
like but they warm up to me and I end up liking them later on. Its okay if you
don't follow trends but its fun to try the new trends just to add a little diferent
    style
